Bhattachan and Alejandro Lule, Co-Owners of La Parrilla and
Zen Zero in Downtown Lawrence opened Genovese together with
Armando Paniagua, formerly Executive Chef of Rose Pistola in
North Beach area of San Francisco. Armando is an award
winning chef who has 16 years of cooking exprience in the
San Francisco Bay Area. He started working at Rose Pistola
as a Sous-Chef and was the Executive Chef for the past seven
years prior to joining Genovese. He has travelled to Italy
frequently for research and development, food and wine
tasting, and getting to know the local culture, people and
most importantly the food.
Genovese is located at
941 Massachusetts Street in historic Downtown Lawrence. The
interior changes were made with input from Denton Nichols, a
local architect, consulting from Katie Baird who owns His By
Design, an interior design firm in Overland Park, KS and
guidance from Jack Cronemeyer, a local contractor and a dear
friend. The interior evokes a rustic Italian feel with
Mediterranean colors, terra cotta tile blends, antique tile
reproductions, mosaic, Venetian plaster and exposed wooden
beams.
Genovese features seasonal rustic Italian cuisine from the
Liguria region of North West Italy by the Italian Rivieras.
The restaurant imported Italian made wood-fired rotisserie
and charcoal grill. Additionally, another cooking feature is
the gas/wood fired pizza oven. The menu features hot and
cold antipastis, soup & salads, crisp thin pizzas, homemade
fresh pastas --ravioli, fettuccine, pappardelle and gnoochi,
and wood-fired rotisserie meats.
Diners can also choose from a wide range of wines from the
Wine List whether the $20 List, Premium or Reserve List.
Wines are featured from Italy, Spain, Portugal, US, Chile
and Argentina, in addition to the Bellini from the Cocktail
List or Vanilla Swirl Martini from the Martini List to name
a few.
